Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training I - Sanctuary Hill, New Plymouth
(in English)

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” (Confucius)

This 6 day/50 hour certified module of our 200 hour Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training is intended to deepen our understanding of Yin Yoga through the experiential, practical and theoretical application. We study in depth the 20+ basic yin yoga poses and discover a sense of security and deepen our ability to effectively practice and teach, through developing an anatomical awareness and understanding of skeletal variation.

We learn to employ the 7 point analysis principle to understand each yoga pose as well as the individual and unique bodies of not only ourselves but also our students. In turn this enables us to offer logical assists and variations.  Anatomy is the key.

Welcome to Yin Yoga & Anatomy Teacher Training I
This 50-hour intensive yoga teaching course (6 days) comprises 4 sections:

1. Yin Yoga Asanas

This section covers the theory and practice for safely practicing and teaching 20 yin yoga poses, including their specific characteristics and their effects.

2. Anatomy is the Key

Anatomical understanding of not only the individual bone structure but also the muscular, connective, fascial and ligament tissues is an essential prerequisite for an effective yoga teacher.

3. 7-Point Analysing Principle for Assists - Theory

This course focuses less on teaching set assists and much more on introducing a 7-point analysing principle, which you can then use for every known yoga pose and for each individual student.

4. 7-Point Analysing Principle - Practical Tests

In this Yin Yoga and Anatomy Teacher Training, we study and apply a series of practical tests for analysing the bone structure, compression and tension of our students.  We will have the opportunity to learn – in a safe environment – to read a human being, to sense our own limitations and to test and recognise those of others.  Eventually, with the benefit of myriad insights and enhanced self-awareness, we will be able to assess the needs and limitations of any individual student.

The foundation has been laid.

I feel blessed to have just completed the 200 hrs YYTT with Markus and Karin. They are inspirational teachers, with great warmth and humour, who live and breathe what they teach. The course was a full immersion in the world of Yin Yoga.
I gained a very workable knowledge of anatomy, a true insight into the uniqueness of every “body”, and a clear understanding what it means to be an authentic yin yoga teacher. I was inspired and look forward to sharing what I have learnt.
— Jenny P - Auckland
I highly, highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in diving deep into the foundations of Yin Yoga or who simply wants to experience the world-class teaching offered by Markus. This was hands down one of the best courses I have ever done and I cannot wait to be back for Module II, for which I will travel to Germany all the way from Canada. Markus is a well of knowledge on all things (Yin) Yoga, has fascinating stories to tell, is hilariously funny, extremely compassionate and kind. I can honestly say I learned much more than 50 hours’ worth. Thank you!
— Dr. Thea B., Vancouver

Matariki Yin Yoga Immersion with Sanctuary Hill, New Plymouth (in English)

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” (Confucius)

Yin yoga is one of the calmest and most relaxing forms of yoga in the world, consisting of a series of passive poses of the body.

By means of long-held stretches (3–5 minutes) without muscle tension, we focus on the deep connective, fascial and ligamental tissues – stimulating, strengthening and stretching the tissues.

We mobilise the joints, and stimulate and calm the nervous system, thereby reducing stress and encouraging regeneration.

During the practice we temporarily slow down the flow of Chi energy, enabling the revitalising energy to accumulate and then flow more freely on conclusion of the practice.

Indeed for days after a yin yoga practice, we’ll feel blissfully relaxed and recharged.

This Yin Yoga Weekend Immersion is suitable for yoga teachers and also yoga students wishing to learn more about yin yoga and yoga anatomy.

Yin Yoga Weekend Immersion with Sanctuary Hill, New Plymouth (in English)

This Yin Yoga Weekend Immersion is suitable for yoga teachers and also yoga students

Saturday 1 December
Morning Session (11.00am - 2.00pm)
Yin Yoga - The Six Senses

"Some people are so afraid to die that they never begin to live." - Henry Van Dyke

Many of us are not only afraid of dying!
Many of us are afraid of living and are stressed and overwhelmed from the constant changing state of emotions such as grief, anger, frustration, love, happiness. <
Many of us detest ourselves throughout life and criticise for example, our own bodies (too big, too thin, too tall, too small) covering up our deep-seated fears of being criticised, ridiculed or not being good enough.
A deep-seated feeling within us says "you are not (good) enough".

It appears that we simply have no idea how to live a happy life.

Instead of experiencing the miracle of life - our existence as part of nature, we distract ourselves from it and deal with life the best we can.

At the end of life, most of us are full of regret.

Author, songwriter and international speaker Bronnie Ware wrote a best-selling memoir “The Top Five Regrets of the Dying” after countless conversations with dying people with the five main regrets being:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me
2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard
3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier

In this Yin Yoga session, we explore the art of living through the six senses with which we perceive life!

We will discuss how to overcome our ignorance of the Queens and Kings (ourselves), how to deal with fear, frustration and anger and how to nourish one’s happiness through mindfulness.

We introduce a powerful tool, a sound which brings us back to the here and now - to live life in the present and without regrets in the future.

Afternoon Session (3.30pm - 6.30pm)
in Yoga - Why Are You Here?

Why Are You Here is posed at the beginning of class to lend more depth and purpose to your yoga practice.
Why Are You Here awakens consciousness, urging you to respond.

But what is the underlying purpose of our yoga practice and our lives? Why are we here?

Theory
In an initial lecture, we delineate the yogic view of the question why we are here and explain what our purpose in this life could be!

Meditation and Contemplation
During a guided meditation, we will touch on every area of your life as you meditate on the question:
"Why am I here?"

A deeply personal and intense experience!

Yin Yoga Asana Practice
We will conclude the afternoon session with a Yin Yoga asana practice guiding, and integrating the charged mental energy throughout our bodies. Yin Yoga has a mental, emotional, energetic and physical effect. Following this very personal and intensive mediation/contemplation, we can expect response in all areas of our lives.

This asana practice can be challenging on all levels!

Are you ready to encounter your true self?

Sunday 2 December
Morning Session (9.00am - 12.00pm)
