Yin Therapy Workshop (German) - Graz, AUSTRIA

Yin Therapy Workshop (German) - Graz, AUSTRIA

Yin Therapy Workshop at Studio Herzfeld, Graz
(in German)

This practical workshop is suitable for yoga practitioners and yoga teachers alike.

In a fast-paced, performance-oriented, crisis-ridden life, we often feel alone, overwhelmed and stressed. Our response to this is often to demand more of ourselves - a desire to go higher, faster and further. The result is often deep physical and mental exhaustion.

"No mud, no lotus." - Thich Nhat Hanh

Yin Therapy deliberately takes the opposite path to create awareness of the imbalance in the body and mind through meditation, contemplation, restorative yoga and yin yoga. We begin to feel again what we need in life and learn to distinguish the essential from the inessential.

"The way to do is to be." - Lao Tzu

In the first half of our 4-hour Yin Therapy practical session (no theory), we will harmoniously connect the mind and body in movement. In this present, moment-focused state of being, there is no room for everyday thoughts. The stress falls away from us. This is meditation in motion.

In the second half you will be guided deeper and deeper into stillness until only the stillness of being (without movement) remains.

Yin Therapy Practice

  • Walking meditation

  • Breathing exercise

  • Self-regulation exercise

  • Slow to dynamic, easy-to-learn movements

  • Yin yoga

  • Restorative yoga

  • Zen meditation - sitting in silence

"The condition for happiness is always with us, in us, around us!"

- Markus Giess (inspired by Sister Shalom from Dharma Gaia)

Yin Therapy - Contemplation Workshop (German) - Frankfurt, GERMANY

Yin Therapy - Contemplation Workshop at Inside Yoga, Frankfurt
(in German)

“Silence and contemplation leads to understanding. Understanding leads to compassion. And compassion brings love, kindness and equanimity into our hearts.”
– Markus Henning Giess

In our fast-paced, performance-oriented, stressful life, we often feel alone, overwhelmed, and stressed.

Our response to this is often to ask for more from ourselves, to want to go even higher, faster and further. The result is often profound physical and mental exhaustion.

Yin Therapy consciously looks in the opposite direction to create awareness of imbalances in the body and mind through meditation, contemplation, restorative yoga and yin yoga. We begin to feel again what we need in life and learn to distinguish the essential from the non-essential.

In this workshop you will learn to build awareness and compassion for yourself through Buddhist contemplation.

Studies show that compassion towards yourself lowers heart rate, blood pressure and stress hormones in our body. Compassion reduces psychological distress, increases well-being and lays the foundation for spiritual healing.

Yin Yoga Masterclass (German) - Graz, AUSTRIA

Yin Yoga Masterclass at Studio Herzfeld, Graz
(in German)

Suitable for yoga students and yoga teachers

Yin Yoga - the silent practice - directs our gaze inwards, towards our uniqueness, towards our primal power, allowing us to connect with the source, our self.

In Yin Yoga we practice meditatively with long stretches without muscle tension, which make our connective, fascia and ligament tissue flexible and strong, mobilize our joints and stimulate and calm the nervous system. The exercises therefore have a stress-reducing and regenerating effect.

Theory/lecture
Yin Yoga & Mindfulness

Practice
3.5 hours of meditation & Yin Yoga.

During this class we will give the mind a lot of silence in order to sink deeper and deeper into ourselves and find peace.

»When the mind is silent, the heart speaks. The language of the heart is love, compassion and peace.«

Yin Therapy - Restorative Yoga Workshop (German) - Frankfurt, GERMANY

Yin Therapy - Restorative Yoga at Inside Yoga, Frankfurt
(in German)

Rest – Restore – Regenerate

Restorative yoga is the art of resting. Pause, let go and surrender to silent lingering. The passive lying postures put you in a state of mental introspection and physical relaxation. Cells regenerate and an inner balance is restored. You are slowly moving from a state of doing to a state of being. Restorative yoga, in its passivity, is the perfect balance to our often stressful, active-driven world.

“An anxious mind can not exist in a relaxed body”
– Dr. Edmund Jacobson

Theory
What is the difference between Yin Yoga & Restorative Yoga?
What is Yin Therapy – Restorative Yoga?
Why do we practice Yin Therapy – Restorative Yoga?
How do we practice Yin Therapy – Restorative Yoga?
How do we use props in a restorative yoga practice?

Yin Therapy – Restorative Praxis
Part 1: Gentle Relaxation Exercises
Part 2: Setting up two Yin Therapy – Restorative Postures
Part 3: Practicing two Yin Therapy – Restorative Postures

"How nice it is to do nothing and rest afterwards."

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Workshop (German) - Basel, SWITZERLAND

Yin Yoga & Anatomy Workshop at Anjali Yoga & Pilates Studio, Basel
(in German)

“Wherever you go, go with all your heart.” (Confucius)

Yin yoga is one of the calmest and most relaxing forms of yoga in the world, consisting of a series of passive poses of the body.

By means of long-held stretches (3–5 minutes) without muscle tension, we focus on the deep connective, fascial and ligamental tissues – stimulating, strengthening and stretching the tissues.

We mobilise the joints, and stimulate and calm the nervous system, thereby reducing stress and encouraging regeneration.

During the practice we temporarily slow down the flow of Chi energy, enabling the revitalising energy to accumulate and then flow more freely on conclusion of the practice.

Indeed for days after a yin yoga practice, we’ll feel blissfully relaxed and recharged.

Depending on the length of the workshop, either all or only certain themes of Yin Yoga and Anatomy theory – as listed below – will be discussed.
Depending on the length of the workshop, either all or only a selection of Yin Yoga and Anatomy listed below will be practiced.

We'll discuss the following issues:
What restrictions does my individual bone structure impose on me?
How different is it from other people’s bone structure?
Will I or my students ever manage to get into the lotus position or achieve a “perfect” pigeon, etc?

Matariki Yin Yoga Immersion with Sanctuary Hill, New Plymouth (in English)

This Yin Yoga Weekend Immersion is suitable for yoga teachers and also yoga students wishing to learn more about yin yoga and yoga anatomy.

Saturday 25 June 2022

What is Yin Yoga?
What is yang yoga?
What are the advantages of each kind of yoga?

Practice

Afternoon Session
2.30pm - 5.30pm

Theory
Skeletal variation
Function/aesthetics

Analysis of a yoga pose

Practice
Skeletal variation tests and practical consequences for yang yoga asanas and assists – such as lotus, shoulder stand, pigeon, down dog, warrior, etc.

We’ll analyse the following asanas in detail:
Lotus position        - external rotation of the hip joint
Reclining hero       -  internal rotation of the hip joint

We'll discuss the following issues:
What restrictions does my individual bone structure impose on me?
How different is it from other people’s bone structure?
Will I or my students ever manage to get into the lotus position or achieve a “perfect” pigeon, etc?
Where are the areas of compression and tension within my individual bone structure? How do I deal with it? How can I stretch and stimulate the tissues, when compression is constricting me?
What is the physical function of a yoga pose?

Sunday 26 June 2022
Morning Session
10.00am - 1.00pm

We will draw on the theoretical knowledge we have gained from the previous day and immerse ourselves in a deeply nourishing yin yoga asana practice and iRest Yoga Nidra meditation.

We will experience and discover for ourselves, that when we listen to our bodies, acknowledge, and respect our very unique and individual alignment, the asana practice becomes a profoundly powerful mental, energetic and physical practice.

The hours from this weekend immersion can be used towards Continuing Education with Yoga Alliance for registered teachers.

Yin Yoga - The Six Senses

"Some people are so afraid to die that they never begin to live." - Henry Van Dyke

Many of us are not only afraid of dying!
Many of us are afraid of living and are stressed and overwhelmed from the constant changing state of emotions such as grief, anger, frustration, love, happiness. <
Many of us detest ourselves throughout life and criticise for example, our own bodies (too big, too thin, too tall, too small) covering up our deep-seated fears of being criticised, ridiculed or not being good enough.
A deep-seated feeling within us says "you are not (good) enough".

It appears that we simply have no idea how to live a happy life.

Instead of experiencing the miracle of life - our existence as part of nature, we distract ourselves from it and deal with life the best we can.

At the end of life, most of us are full of regret.

Author, songwriter and international speaker Bronnie Ware wrote a best-selling memoir “The Top Five Regrets of the Dying” after countless conversations with dying people with the five main regrets being:
1. I wish I'd had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me
2. I wish I hadn't worked so hard
3. I wish I'd had the courage to express my feelings
4. I wish I had stayed in touch with my friends
5. I wish that I had let myself be happier

In this Yin Yoga session, we explore the art of living through the six senses with which we perceive life!

We will discuss how to overcome our ignorance of the Queens and Kings (ourselves), how to deal with fear, frustration and anger and how to nourish one’s happiness through mindfulness.

We introduce a powerful tool, a sound which brings us back to the here and now - to live life in the present and without regrets in the future.

Your life's profound purpose!

Why Are You Here is posed at the beginning of class to lend more depth and purpose to your yoga practice.
Why Are You Here awakens consciousness, urging you to respond.

But what is the underlying purpose of our yoga practice and our lives? Why are we here?

Theory
In an initial lecture, we delineate the yogic view of the question why we are here and explain what our purpose in this life could be!

Meditation and Contemplation

"Why am I here?"

A deeply personal and intense experience!

Yin Yoga Asana Practice
We will conclude the afternoon session with a Yin Yoga asana practice guiding, and integrating the charged mental energy throughout our bodies. Yin Yoga has a mental, emotional, energetic and physical effect. Following this very personal and intensive mediation/contemplation, we can expect response in all areas of our lives.

Rest deeply and rejuvenate on a long weekend of yin yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Be guided into a gentle release of the body from its wintering slumber and a flowering of the peaceful mind. Discover or deepen your capacity to 'come home' - mind and body dwelling happily together...a well of beauty and strength.

This weekend will be led by Yin Therapy yoga teacher Karin Sang, and Dharma teachers Anton Bank and Caitlin Bush.

This retreat will include twice-daily sessions of yin yoga, morning sitting meditation, a Dharma talk, deep relaxation, sharing circles and outdoor walking meditation. There will also be free time to relax, contemplate, read or go for a walk.

Dharma Gaia is a small retreat centre nestled in a peaceful native bush setting.
